Glocknerwirt 0004

At the foot of the Großglockner, in the heart of the mountain village of Kals, the Glocknerwirt is a hotel project that takes up the special setting between village, landscape and high mountains. As Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner is not only a major tourist destination but also a powerful symbol of Alpine identity. This distinctive atmosphere forms the starting point for the architectural and conceptual realignment of the house.

01

The aim of the project is to strengthen the Glocknerwirt in its traditional independence while carefully bringing it into the present. The character of a charming mountain hotel is to be preserved, while contemporary comfort, generous rooms and high-quality communal areas create new possibilities for guests.

02

In future, the hotel will offer around 50 rooms with views of the surrounding mountains. The offering is complemented by a restaurant serving regional cuisine, communal areas and services for hikers, nature lovers and those seeking rest. The architecture does not see itself as a foreign body but as a further development of the place: shaped by Alpine materials, a clear formal language and a respectful approach to the existing fabric, the landscape and the village structure.

The Glocknerwirt is to be more than a hotel. It becomes a place of arrival, of lingering and of experience – embedded in the impressive natural scenery of Kals am Großglockner.
