Village Extension and Development Vintl
In Vintl, South Tyrol, a housing project is being developed that combines the qualities of the rural village with contemporary forms of living. The starting point of the design is the question of how new forms of housing can be integrated into an alpine setting that has grown over time without overwriting its scale, atmosphere and local identity.
The project takes up the typology of traditional alpine buildings and translates it into a contemporary architectural language. Within the clear, familiar building envelopes, different housing typologies are organised: apartments, compact housing forms and spatially interlocking units create a varied offer for different ways of life.
The buildings are deliberately embedded in the surrounding natural landscape. Their placement strengthens the existing village structure and at the same time creates new transitions between built fabric, landscape and shared open spaces. A generous green space extends the recreation zone and becomes the connecting element between residents, village and landscape.
The aim of the project is a housing estate that understands density not as a contradiction to rural life but as an opportunity for new spatial qualities. Flexible floor plans, shared outdoor spaces and restrained materials help to create a harmonious whole.
Vintl thus gains a careful village extension that combines alpine building tradition, contemporary living and integration into the landscape – independent in expression and respectful of the existing place.
