With the “Klausen Verkehrsvision” (Klausen traffic vision), a strategic basis for the future development of the municipality of Klausen was drawn up as part of the Interreg IV project “REVITA – Alte Städte, neues Leben” (Old Towns, New Life). The aim was not to look at existing traffic problems in isolation but to integrate them actively into urban development and derive from them concrete perspectives for mobility, public space, the economy, tourism and quality of life.

01

The study focused on parking management, through traffic, public transport and urban wayfinding systems. Key areas of the town were examined, including the town entrances, existing bridges, car parks, the station area and important interfaces between the historic old town, traffic spaces and tourist use. For these areas, strengths, weaknesses, development potential and possible improvement measures were identified.

02

An essential part of the process was the involvement of those directly affected. Experiences, needs and observations were gathered in workshops with local stakeholders, in individual conversations with residents and on joint site walks. These findings fed into the development study and formed an important basis for the further strategic direction.

03

Building on the visions developed in the REVITA project, the objectives for Klausen were sharpened and specified. The traffic vision sees itself as a building block of an overarching master plan in which mobility, town profile, tourism concept and wayfinding system are to be brought together. The aim is a coordinated picture of the future that strengthens the historic town, improves orientation and raises the quality of public space.

04

The work on the traffic vision follows the ambition of turning spaces back into places. Especially in a town like Klausen, whose identity is strongly shaped by history, topography, traffic and tourist perception, small-scale, comprehensible and jointly supported solutions are needed. Future development is to bring the economy, society, the environment and tourism into sustainable balance.

The “Klausen Verkehrsvision” is thus not a conclusive individual measure but an open strategic framework. It identifies points for development, formulates approaches to solutions and lays the groundwork for further steps – together with the population, the municipality, local businesses, cultural initiatives and all those who are helping to shape the future of Klausen.
