Redesign Mönichkirchen

The market town of Mönichkirchen, in cooperation with NÖ.Regional GmbH, is conducting a design and ideas process for the redesign of squares and street spaces and for the development of a wayfinding and orientation system within the village. In recent years, a wide range of analyses, studies and sub-projects have been drawn up, all aimed at improving the village's appearance, the reuse of vacant buildings and the further development of its tourism profile. These relevant concepts now provide the basis for the desired concretisation and selective implementation. The most useful findings from these studies are to be used for concrete ideas and concept design for the redesign of public areas in Mönichkirchen.

Neugestaltung-Moenichkirchen-Lageplan-02

The market town of Mönichkirchen plans to redesign squares, areas and street sections along the municipal road, i.e. the main road through the village, in order to meet the demands of traffic, attractiveness, orientation, safety, tourism, local supply etc. as well as possible. In addition, an innovative tourist wayfinding and orientation system is to be developed and implemented.
In principle, public land is available. As a number of adjoining areas are privately owned, this results in constraints. The selective inclusion of private land and peripheral areas should be conceptually possible. In the interests of feasibility, however, proposed solutions should relate to the publicly available land. Concrete proposals are to be offered for these public areas; taking into account traffic volumes and existing carriageway widths, public space is to be improved and redesigned in line with the planning criteria.
A modern wayfinding and orientation system is to serve as the basis for these redesigns, running through the village as a design and functional “red thread”.
Design

01

Contemporary furnishings in keeping with the place, benches, design elements
Create inviting village entrances – upgrade the entrance areas in design terms
Redesign of critical points: spaces, squares, junctions, entrances, car parks, bends
Ensure attractive pedestrian connections between the “Unterort” and “the access to the Alm” in the area of the cable car and the car parks (P1, P2, P3)
Site-appropriate, low-maintenance planting where applicable
Incorporate elements / design associations where applicable, such as alpine pasture, forest, Anton Wildgans, air, water, winter sports, hiking, enjoyment, spaces for movement (climbing, mountain biking…)
Create a visual connection through the village
In line with the master plan by Kohl & Partner, the Schwaig/ALM is to be made tangible and perceptible in the village through the wayfinding and orientation system
