Masterplan Brixen 2020

With the present master plan, Brixen takes a pioneering role in South Tyrol, seeking to close a gap between regional and local planning with this spatial planning instrument. Brixen thereby positions itself as a town of dialogue, holding the key to the acceptance of long-term planning measures and sustainable regional development. The Masterplan Brixen 2020 project was prepared and realised by us in cooperation with the municipality of Brixen. The aim was to draw up a comprehensive white paper as a basis for decisions and work on the future development of the municipality.

In addition to spatial planning and urban design questions, this project also defines objectives and measures in a wide range of specialist fields corresponding to the departments of the town administration. The starting point for the master plan was formed by the results and premises of the municipal mission statement, which had been developed in a preceding participation phase. Building on this, the status quo was analysed with all the physical and metaphysical, organisational and spatial components of the municipality.

The work on the individual development areas culminated in concept papers in which objectives and strategies were formulated and measures defined. For Brixen, with its urban core and a relatively extensive peri-urban and rural area, different approaches and positions had to be found for this.

The Masterplan Brixen 2020 is understood as a dynamic process of discussion and decision-making that is continuously updated. Regular master plan conferences and the continuation of the citizens‘ round tables in the neighbourhoods are planned for this purpose.
