Office refurbishment – MED-EL
Offices for special teams
Offices for special teams
For MED-EL in Innsbruck we had the opportunity to design workspaces that are far more than conventional offices. The focus was on developing an environment for special teams: concentrated, communicative, high-quality and open to different forms of collaboration.
The project combines the functional requirements of a modern working day with a strong spatial identity. Meetings, exchange, retreat and focused work are not considered separately but woven into one continuous working landscape. The result is a set of rooms that can be used flexibly while conveying a clear atmosphere.
A defining element of the design is the interplay of strong colours, soft surfaces and precisely placed light. The deep blue wall and textile elements create depth, calm and concentration. They form a deliberate contrast to the warm table surfaces, the light-coloured seating and the glowing ring elements on the ceiling. This produces a space that feels technically precise and at the same time has a pleasant, almost homely quality.
Lighting plays a central role here. The free-floating circles of light structure the space, set accents and give the meeting area a particular presence. They provide not only brightness but also orientation and atmosphere – a design element that shapes the room without overloading it.
Materials and detailing were deliberately geared towards longevity, quality and comfort in use. Textile wall surfaces improve the acoustics and create a quiet working environment. The generous table forms the centre for meetings, workshops and informal exchange. Complementary lounge areas allow for short retreats and spontaneous conversations away from the conventional workstation.
The result is an office that spatially supports the work of special teams: open, precise and inspiring. A place where concentration and communication both have their space – and where the identity of MED-EL as an innovative, internationally active company becomes tangible.
