Weissensee Boathouse

A retreat with a view of the landscape

Our new project on the Weissensee comprises an elegant boathouse built from regional timber, rising on a gentle hill some 200 metres from the shore. This exceptional location affords an impressive panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding forests. The design of the boathouse is characterised by a modern, clear formal language that respectfully embraces its natural surroundings.

A special retreat is taking shape on the Weissensee: an elegant boathouse of regional timber that settles into the landscape on a gentle hill some 200 metres from the shore. The elevated position opens up a wide view across the lake, the surrounding forests and the alpine setting. The building thus becomes a place that brings together nature, calm and architecture in a particular way.

01

The clear, modern formal language of the house refers to the simple typology of a boathouse, yet translates it into a contemporary, generous architecture. The elongated volume follows the topography and in places appears to push out over the slope. This creates a strong relationship between building, terrain and view – restrained in its placement, but precise in its effect.

02

Regional timber construction defines the character of the project. The natural materiality creates warmth and atmosphere, while the vertical timber façade ties the building into its surroundings as a matter of course. Large expanses of glazing open the interiors to the landscape and make the view across lake and forest the defining element of living here. Inside and outside flow into one another.

03

The project is conceived as an exclusive place of recreation. Generous living areas, terraces and sheltered retreats create a calm setting for relaxed days by the lake. At the same time, the architecture remains functional and precise: clear floor plans, robust materials and modern technical standards form the basis for sustainable, long-lasting use.

04

Particular emphasis is placed on ecological responsibility. The use of regional building materials, modern energy standards and renewable energy underline the project’s sustainable ambition. The building does not seek contrast with nature but develops its quality out of the landscape.

The result is a boathouse on the Weissensee that is far more than a building by the water. It is a place of arrival, of calm and of outlook – close to nature, reduced and of high quality. An architecture that holds back and draws its strength from doing precisely that.
