Anras – Building on the Existing Fabric

In Anras, a house is taking shape that carefully carries the existing building forward and combines traditional construction with contemporary architecture. The two lower storeys are retained in their solid stone structure and upgraded in energy terms with internal insulation. Building on this, the house continues upwards in lightweight timber construction: the upper floor and roof storey are conceived as a precise, restrained addition that complements the existing fabric without overwriting it.

The result is a house that openly displays its constructional logic: the heavy, anchored stone base in dialogue with the warm, finely articulated timber structure above. The new design takes up the alpine surroundings and translates them into a clear architectural language. Vertical timber slats, deep reveals and the calm materiality give the building a strong yet natural presence.

01

The project is understood as sensitive building within the existing fabric. The existing substance is used, upgraded and brought into a new spatial order. The design combines durability, quality of living and a responsible use of resources in a contemporary house with a strong connection to its place.
