Anerkennung des Landes Tirol für Neues Bauen 2024 (Tyrol State Award Commendation for New Building)

Jury report:
Massive plinth, two storeys of log construction and above them a dark-stained roof storey with a gable facing the valley, a double-flight staircase on the central axis, a continuous narrow balcony, regularly spaced small windows and doors.

Were it not for two openings in the roof storey, in the shadow of the projecting roof, that run counter to this symmetry, one would walk straight past this imposing historic farmhouse in East Tyrol, set far from the village and perched above the valley.

On entering the house one is surprised to discover an exciting sequence of varied rooms, lined throughout with larch wood as in a work of Minimal Art.

The unexpected double-height kitchen, the beautifully restored old Stuben (panelled parlours), the fine door fittings, the carefully mounted black radiators and the elegant small bathrooms tell of the „urban“ life that has moved into the centuries-old farmhouse.

An exemplary, sensitive restoration, inside and out, of a classic work of anonymous architecture of a kind found throughout Tyrol!
