Lecture “Neighbourhood development – planning a quarter?” Forum Brixen, 23 April 2025

On 23 April 2025 we spoke at the Forum Brixen, Sala Regensburg, at a members‘ meeting on the topic “Neighbourhood development – planning a quarter?”. The lecture brought together 20 years of experience with neighbourhood and village development processes in Tyrol, South Tyrol and the wider Alpine region.
Neighbourhood development is never purely a planning task. It is always also a political, social and economic process. In our view, the best processes work where architecture, participation and political steering are understood as elements of equal weight, and where there is the ambition not only to plan a neighbourhood but to accompany it over time.
Examples in the lecture included projects in Brixen (Priel site, Schenoni site, Stadtentwicklung Nord), Wildschönau (Niederau), Vintl, Söll, St. Johann in Tirol and Innsbruck (Campagne). The range shows how much neighbourhood development depends on the local situation, and how important the methodological toolkit is that a long-established practice brings with it.
