Haus am Hof Traunsee – Living in an ensemble grown over time

Our current project in Upper Austria combines the careful refurbishment of a traditional existing building with the construction of a contemporary new building on a sloping site. The aim was to design both volumes so that they form a harmonious whole, functionally and aesthetically.

Brief
New build, conversion, refurbishment

The existing building, a traditional structure with a characteristic pitched roof, was comprehensively refurbished. Particular care was taken to preserve its original character and historic fabric. The façade was restored, reusing old materials in the process. Modern, energy-efficient elements were carefully integrated to combine rustic charm with the demands of contemporary living.

01

The new building fits elegantly into the slope and is characterised by clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. Large glazed surfaces offer wide views of the surrounding nature and create bright, light-filled interiors. The combination of timber and concrete gives it a modern, warm appearance. The low volume blends seamlessly into the landscape and forms an exciting contrast to the traditional existing building.

02

Sustainability played a central role in planning and construction. Regionally and ecologically produced building materials and modern building services systems were used to create an energy-efficient ensemble. The new building has highly efficient thermal insulation and a photovoltaic system for its own electricity supply, which significantly reduces energy consumption.

This project shows impressively how tradition and modernity can be harmoniously united in architecture. The successful refurbishment of the existing building and the innovative new build offer a high level of living comfort and contribute to the sustainable development of the region.
