Through a skilful distribution of building mass, a fitting piece is developed that resolves all aspects of this complex brief in a natural, self-evident way while adding spatial and programmatic value. The building connects the adjacent stepped terrain directly to the new spatial programme via a terrace running around it. In urban design terms, the new front edge of the building on Peter-Mayr-Straße aligns with the free-standing building to the north. This results in a balanced relationship between building mass and high-quality open spaces. The surrounding areas and green structures are included in the overall consideration, in particular all connecting levels. The newly created, clearly legible building figure as a four-storey development corresponds to the neighbouring buildings.

Architectural aspects

The new building for preclinical experimental research at the Medical University of Innsbruck acts as a link between the houses on Peter-Mayr-Straße and the university building on Fritz-Pregl-Straße.
