Brixner magazine, December 2011 – City of the future

The article entitled “Brixner 2025” in the Brixner magazine dealt with the question of how Brixen would develop over the following decade and a half. In this context, Stadt:Labor was presented as one of the practices helping to shape Brixen’s spatial future through their designs and procedures.

Looking back, many of the topics discussed at the time can now be traced to concrete projects: the former Schenoni military site has been developed as a neighbourhood, the Priel-Arena has found its public function, and the urban development of Brixen Nord has become part of a strategic framework. Brixen 2025 was thus not pure speculation but a forecast that has partly come true.

For our work, “Brixner 2025” was an occasion to reflect on our own position towards the city – not in the form of a single building, but in the form of a long-term attitude towards existing fabric, densification and public space.
