Bei uns 08.2009 – Brixner architecture supplement

In 2009, the Brixner monthly magazine published a series of architecture articles under the heading “Bei uns”. In issue 08/2009 our practice – then operating under the name Lanz + Mutschlechner / stadtlabor – was featured with one of our Brixen projects.

Brixen has been one of our most important locations from the outset. The town combines historic density with a high dynamic of change, and so poses exactly the questions we like to work on: how do new neighbourhoods come into being without damaging the old ones? How does contemporary architecture deal with the urban fabric? What role do public spaces play in an Alpine townscape with a Mediterranean character?

Several of our defining Brixen projects – including the Astrakino, the Masterplan 2020 and later the Priel neighbourhood development – date from precisely this phase of our work. The “Bei uns” article documents one episode in this relationship between town and architecture.
