In November 2022 we documented the progress of construction work at the Wastls-Haus in Lehn / Längenfeld, which will serve as a museum site once the refurbishment is complete. The project belongs to that series of projects by our practice in which building archaeology, heritage conservation, timber construction and museum use come together.

The Wastls-Haus is an exceptional farmstead ensemble in terms of building history. Construction phases from several centuries overlap, the structures alternate between heavy stone masonry and lightweight log construction (Strickbau), and remnants of the farm’s original functional logic are still legible. The refurbishment seeks to preserve this legibility and not to overwrite it with new interventions.

The construction phase in autumn 2022 was formative for the project: this was where key questions about the fabric were decided, and where new connections between old building elements were made. Our photographic documentation of this phase is part of a collection of material that has accompanied the project throughout its duration.
