Refurbishing a farmhouse in Tyrol – a fine example

Glass, steel and old log walls: this conversion in the Alps proves that you can live in a centuries-old farmhouse as if it were a loft.
This is the story of the renovation of a farmhouse more than 300 years old in the breathtaking Alps. When we first saw the property, it was love at first sight. The view of the snow-capped mountains and the fresh air were stunning. The interior of the house, however, was in urgent need of renovation.
The residential part of the Rainerhof, which can be traced in documents back to the 16th and perhaps even the 15th century, is a very authentically preserved log building distinguished by many well-preserved details (box windows with decorative frames, ornamental cut-outs on the bargeboards and balcony railings, etc.). The farmstead as a whole still presents a coherent picture. A wooden shingle roof is essential in this setting to preserve the character of the couple’s farmstead. Great attention should also be paid to preserving and repairing the wooden box windows, the balconies, all the ornamental cut motifs and so on.
Over several months we worked tirelessly to bring this old farmhouse back to life. We renovated the wooden floors throughout the house, giving it a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Throughout the renovation we took care to preserve the integrity and character of the original farmhouse. We salvaged and reused as many materials as possible, including the original timber walls, which can still be seen throughout the house.
The result of our hard work is a stunning, stylish farmhouse that feels both modern and timeless.
